WRITING & DESIGN
A freelance writer and editor, ANDRIA HAYDAY wrote the text for the book and shepherded its layout and production. She once developed fantasy game-worlds as a creative director for TSR. Today she writes about a wide range of topics, from healthcare to landscape design and architecture. She is the author of Adding Character, a Better Homes and Gardens book, as well as numerous lifestyle features for magazines such as Midwest Living. She and her husband live in Lake Geneva year-round.
Originally from Michigan, graphic designer ALISON MACKEY has lived in Wisconsin since 1990. She currently works for Kalmbach Publishing in Waukesha, where she designs magazines that feature jewelry. She had never seen Geneva Lake before she began work on this project, but after several visits and many hours of poring over photos, it has become part of her psyche. “Maybe I’ll give tours on the shore path now,” she says.
PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHERS
Now based in Brooklyn, New York, photographer THOMAS HAND KEEFE grew up beside Geneva Lake. He became interested in photography while attending The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut and grew even more involved while studying at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. These days, Tom shoots portraits and band photography in New York, but during the summer of 2005, he roved the Geneva Lake area with camera in hand—by ultralight and by boat as well as on foot. This book features the results. To see more of Tom’s work, visit www.thomashandkeefe.com.
Architectural photographer JON JANZEN has deep ties to the lake— his family has lived here since the 1890s, and he grew up on the west end. Now a Williams Bay resident, Jon travels the country shooting locations for architects, builders, and publications such as Countryside magazine. His work is prominently featured in the “Homes & Havens” section of this book. “It was a real thrill to photograph homes that I’ve admired all my life,” he says.
BRUCE THOMPSON has traveled extensively during his 30-year career in fine art and commercial photography, but his favorite setting lies just beyond the doorstep of his Fontana home. His work has been featured in such publications as Midwest Living, National Geographic, and Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ,) and he is the principal photographer for the book Grand and Glorious: Classic Boats of Lake Geneva. Bruce is the son of Impressionist painter Richard Earl Thompson, who sparked Bruce’s own passion for art. To learn more, visit www.thompsonsfineart.com.
